Horizontal Waterfalls Trip

Broome

sunny 30 °C

We are staying at a different place this time, a little bit better organised caravan park. We went out to dinner at a tavern on the corner from the caravan park and had planned an early night!!!!!!!!! No such luck there was a live band playing and the music was very loud. Oh well, that is life.
The alarm went off at 4.45am, felt like I had to get up for work, but NO we were up at that time for a very different reason. The bus was picking us up and taking us to Broome Airport to board the 14 seater sea plane to fly us to Talbot Bay. The flight was about an hour and we had the smoothest landing, hopped off on the pontoon. A very warm welcome at 7am and a briefing of what we can expect for the morning. Firstly, change into your bathers for a swim in the shark cage. I was first in, the water very warm, and the container at the side of the cage loaded with food for the sharks. Well within seconds they were there, numerous Fawn sharks, bull shark and an enormous groper. It was amazing. The guy feeding the Fawn sharks told us the names of some of the sharks, “Bruce, Max, Gordon (he was the Groper)” and several other ones. It was quite an experience. We were then called for Breakfast, lovely fresh rolls with egg and bacon, juice, cereal, fruit and tea or coffee.266_feeding_time.jpg304_shark.jpg
After that we hopped onto the jet boat, a 12 seater, where Adrian took us to his house, a floating pontoon in the bay, just amazing. Here we stopped and he fed some fish and hand caught a bat fish, you will see the photos.279_fish.jpg281_house.jpg He explained about his house and then we headed off to the horizontal waterfalls. The falls occur between two bays and when the tide rises the volume of water trying to rush from one bay to the next causes this waterfall effect. We went through the larger opening and then he backed the boat up to the narrower one. He then turned the boat around and went “down” the falls, and came back through. We did this twice and was awesome. Photos will not do it justice.269_boat.jpg259_jetboat.jpg290_falls.jpg295_falls.jpg297_falls.jpg
This place was featured on one of David Attenborough’s programmes and also Get Away. Our flight back to Broome took us over the Buccaneer Archipelago, then on to Cape Leveque and down the coast to Broome. The scenery was just fabulous and the day provided us with the perfect weather.313_flt.jpg253_coastline.jpg
Our next adventure in Broome was an hour camel ride along Cable Beach. Our camels name was “Cairo”. There were 12 camels and the smallest and cutest (if you can call camels cute!!!!!!!!!) was named “Jemma”, the photo follows.359_Jemma_the_camel.jpg358_camel.jpg We did enjoy the ride but was quite an experience getting on and off the camel and I was amazed how high we were sitting. I would not like to do a longer journey on one!!!!!!!! My legs etc a little sore today. 379_wave.jpg377_camels_legs.jpg375_us_on_cario.jpg374_camel_train.jpg364_camel_ride.jpg363_check_out_the_lip.jpg
